You spent a week or so examining the topic of imperialism, specifically the European takeover of Africa. Based on what you've read and watched and considering the state of Africa today, do you think Africa benefitted at all from European influence? In your response, state a few reasons why.
i think that they modernized a good amount but the slavery was not good at all.Africa was open to the world and all over the news and everything like that and that helped them modernize. i think that after they were independent was there best stage
ReplyDeleteI think that in colonizing Africa it woke them up to what other counties in the world were doing. But the europeans did it so brutally and horribly that people is large numbers were killed for no reason. Its debatable what was the right decision...
ReplyDeleteA.) to have Africa stay how it was always without disrupting them.
B.) Going in and telling them to live a different way and sell them as slaves and kill them.
So there are the choices I would go with the first one because face it who wants a lot of innocent people dying. I think they should have let Africa stay in its natural state
I think that Africa did benefit from being influenced by Europe. They benefited by more jobs being created, public schools, conversion to Christianity and a better economy at times. But that being said Africa also had horrible things happen because of European influence. There was increased slave trade, riots and even civil wars. Overall though I believe that Africa benefited from its imperialism.
ReplyDeleteThere are positive and negative results from the imperialism of Africa by European countries. It is because of the European industrial revolution that Africa had gained much modern and helpful technology from European rule when it seized Africa. Cities were filled with buildings, schools were built, economy increased and even medicines were introduced to fight off common, deadly diseases.
ReplyDeleteAlthough Africa was made prosperous it was also robbed of its culture. Christianity was trying to be spread, and the way of life of Africans was demanded of change which Africans greatly opposed. Additionally, African's were forced to work hard for low pay at endless hours. Congolese were maimed, raped, beaten, and killed. Many African's lost their lives in resistance to European rule. An endless hate bond between the European and African races will always be held in their pasts. In ends, Africa remained constant in their culture, therefore only items and ideas are added. Africa benefited minimally from European imperialism.
Europe modernized Africa, and helped the countries in it as a whole, but the African people didn't benefit much at all. most of them were brutally treated, and probably didnt have many rights at all even in their own country. Africa still has problems today. While the europeans brought stability, they could have been more generous to the people of Africa, who are now for the most part poor and sick. helping a country advance while stealing its resources, subjugating its people and killing any dissenters doesnt seem like much help to me at all.
ReplyDeleteWhen Europe went into Africa, they modernized the country the best they could. They introduced western education and technology. Africa benefited greatly from these increases in life, and Europe acted like a "father" figure for Africa, guiding them in how to run their countries. Europe opened many doors to Africans by introducing them to new ways of life. Although some leaders persecuted the Africans, I believe that Africa as a continent still learned many important lessons with Europe ruling it. However, once Europe left, Africa was unable to keep up with what the Europeans taught them. The were unable to continue to advance and their countries began to suffer again. Europe helped Africa greatly, but Africa was not able to maintain what Europe gave them so they suffered. This brings us to the state of African countries today, pretty much the same as before they were imperialized.
ReplyDeleteI think that Africa was cursed forever by the meddling of European conquerers. This is because of not only the stolen resources that once belonged to Africa, but also the slave trade, hate crimes, tribal warfare, theft, abuse, and even prejudice. Prejudice is the worst of all the others, mainly because the South Africans were the subject of racism and hate crimes even in their own country, which should be a safe haven. But instead, it is just another place of hatred, injustice and inhuman, vicious brutality against one's fellow humans.
ReplyDeleteI think that if Europe hadn't interfered, Africa would have eventually became modernized and it would have happened gradually instead of throwing it at them all at once. Europe took Africa's resources and turned the Africans into slaves. So, I don't think that Africa benefited from Europe taking over. The conditions in Africa today are very bad and I think that has to do with the Europeans trying to modernize it to early. Before they took over, the Africans were fine with not being involved with the outside world. I think Europe broke Africa and now they cant get back to how it was before.
ReplyDeleteEurope helped Africa by modernizing the country, however Africa helped Europe even more. Europe not only took Africa's resources, they had the African's do it for them. The Europeans treated the slaves horribly, beating and shooting the slaves if they didn't do what they were told. Europe could have at least helped Africa a bit more, but they were really only there because they wanted to make money. Overall, I think imperialism hurt Africa more than it helped it, since so many Africans were killed.
ReplyDeleteEurope did have a lasting impact on Africa but its kind of decide weather it was positive or negative. When Europe colonized Africa, it was not civilized at all. The Africans lived like cannibals. That was why Europe was able to colonize Africa very easily. When Europe left Africa, it was more modern than before, but it was not in a awesome state. so in over all, i think Europe helped and was good for africa. If Europe never colonized Africa, i think Africa would be in a much worse state than it is in now.
ReplyDeleteAlthough European powers were cruel to Africans, forcing them to do slave labor, it impacted them in a positive way. Africa was colonized, European powers civilized Africa by building railways and roads. When Europe was collecting African resources, Africans discovered that their minerals and resources were very valuable. Later, after Africa became an independent country, they continued to collect resources, but there was a limit. Resources and minerals were running low. Their money was very limited. Many Africans were starving, had no shelter, and had very little education.
ReplyDeleteI think that Aferica did benifit when Europe took them over but it was far worse than it was good. A perfect example would be in the Congo because they learned about the technology of the world with the factories and they also learned how powerful some parts of the world are, but they were made slaves under terrable rule! They were abused and many were killed by abuse and many more were missing body parts by the time that the European powers finaly left there home. This is what happened in many of the African regions but on a lesser level. So over all I would say that Africa did benifit a little bit because they were introduced to new technology but it was far worse what the European powers did to them.
ReplyDeleteI think that the European rule over the Africans have both bad influences on the Africans and good. I think during their rule the Africans got mostly bad results to what the Europeans where doing.Based on what we watch happen in the Congo video the people were tortured and killed and it was just horrible and nothing the Europeans did did anything for the Africans all the money went back to Europe. I don't think anything good came from the Europeans until after they left because then thats when Africans made better use of the school systems and roadways that were made because they could use it without the European rules like limited education and graduates and roads ways were able to be used for transportation for trade that benifited the Africans.
ReplyDeletei think that Europe going into Africa was good and bad. It was good because they modernized almost all of the continent. It was bad because the treated the Africans horribly they enslaved them the beat the and did many more nasty things to the Africans. Also it was bad for the Africans because the Europeans tried to force Christianity over their native relgion
